When custom data becomes difficult to manage
As an agency building Shopify stores, we often need custom data on products and collections. Standard metafields work well for simple content, but more complex structures can quickly become difficult to manage.
For example, a product might need a list of materials, each with its own care instructions. When these vary between products, managing separate metaobjects can quickly become cumbersome. A JSON metafield keeps everything together, but editing raw JSON isn’t practical for most content teams.
That’s why we built Schema Studio. Bring your own JSON Schema or create one with our form builder, then add it to a JSON metafield’s validation settings. Schema Studio turns it into a form that feels at home in Shopify, giving clients a clear way to manage their content.
Choose an example, or paste your own schema below. Switching schemas resets the demo content.
View or paste a JSON Schema
Supports the same schema rules as the app. Demo limits: 100 fields, 8 nesting levels and 20 entries per list. Pasted schemas stay in your browser.

Define the structure.
Set the rules.
Build anything from a few extra product details to nested groups and repeatable lists. Choose the fields your team needs, then set clear rules for the content they enter.
Fields that fit your content
Combine text, numbers, whole numbers, checkboxes and dropdown choices. Add readable labels and descriptions, mark fields as required, or allow an empty value.
Structure beyond a flat list
Group related fields and repeat entire groups in a list. Each entry can have its own mix of values, so your structure can grow with the content on each product, collection or variant.
Validation with real control
Set minimum and maximum text lengths, number ranges and list sizes. Limit choices to approved values and require unique list entries. Bring your own schema for supported text pattern rules too.
A clear form, backed by your schema
Schema Studio checks edits against your schema before saving. Clients work with familiar form fields while the structured JSON stays in your Shopify metafield, ready for your theme or integrations.
Built on Shopify’s own data
What’s the difference between Schema Studio and other custom field apps?
Schema Studio improves how you edit custom data. Your content stays in Shopify, ready to use without a separate content service.
SHOPIFY METAFIELDS
Stored in your store
Saved content lives in Shopify’s native metafields, rather than on our servers. Your store remains the home for your data.
LIQUID & SHOPIFY APIS
Use it directly
Read your content in your theme’s Liquid or through Shopify’s APIs. There’s no Schema Studio API to integrate or extra request to our servers.
RENDER WITH LIQUID
Ready when the page loads
Render content as part of the page instead of fetching it afterwards. No late content or layout shifts caused by requests to Schema Studio.
HOW IT WORKS
A considered workflow. From start to save.
Build your structure.
Bring your own JSON Schema, or use our form builder to create one with the fields, groups and validation rules you need.
Connect your metafield.
Copy the generated JSON Schema into the validation settings of a JSON metafield definition in Shopify.
Make content feel easy.
Open Schema Studio from the resource’s actions, select a JSON metafield, edit its form and save back to Shopify.
